FISSURE IN ANO (ANAL FISSURE)

DEFINITIONS: Elongated ulcer in the long axis of the lower anal canal.
Common site is midline Posterior or midline anterior of the anus. Reason for anal fissure – tearing down of an anal valve of ball due to passing out hard fecal mass.

    SYMPTOMS OF ANAL FISSURE:

  1. Pain- sharp agonizing pain during passing motion.
  2. Constipation present.
  3. Blood-streaked bright red bleeding in the motion.
  4. Mucus discharge present.
  5. Burning Anus.
  6. Sentinel tag present.

    TREATMENT – MEDICAL TREATMENT

  1. Apply 5% Xylocaine jelly ointment.
  2. Medication,painkiller.
  3. Laxative.
  4. Sitz bath.

    SURGERY FOR ANAL FISSURE

  1. Dilation of the fissure done under general anesthesia.
  2. Lateral anal Sphincterotomy done.
  3. Dorsal fissurectomy and sphincterotomy done.
